Massage Envy Spa Tempe Marketplace

08/30/2013 by Samantha McIntosh

Need a good skin cleanup without breaking the bank? Read our review of the new Murad Healthy Skin Facials available nationwide at Massage Envy Spas.

I was a late bloomer when it comes to facials, in fact, in the past I had been known to actively avoid skincare treatments. Just ask my friend who so kindly set up some pre-wedding pampering for her bridesmaids. Needless to say, I did not win bridesmaid of the year. However, a lot has changed since I was 18 and I practically crave spa services like women crave chocolate and wine (also weaknesses of mine if you are keeping count). So, when I had the chance to head to Massage Envy Spa Tempe Marketplace for a facial, you could practically see the trail of dust I left behind.

Massage Envy FacialMassage Envy might not be the first place you think of for a skin-soothing facial. Massage, yeah for sure. But skincare is a relatively new offering for Massage Envy and very welcomed given their philosophy of making a healthy lifestyle more accessible, convenient and affordable. So I was eager to learn more about their Murad Healthy Skin Facials and the products best suited for my much-needed home care regimen.

Being a new mom and having the added responsibility of finding a sitter, I opted for a weekend appointment so my husband could be home with our daughter. As I entered the parking lot of Tempe Marketplace, I instantly reconsidered the sanity behind my choice of appointment day and time. I feared the worst — noisy reception area, crowded waiting area and all around chaos thanks to everyone trying to relax on the weekend. But to my delightful surprise, I could not have been more wrong.

Walking in to the reception area of Massage Envy Spa at Tempe Marketplace, I was warmly greeted by Jason, who was one of the most pleasant people I have encountered in any customer service position. We went over the paperwork to customize my facial experience, and he took me on a quick tour before leaving me to relax before my appointment. Again, the waiting area was not like I imagined, in fact it was serene and peaceful — a perfect start to my mini escape from reality.

It was only a few calm and collected moments before my aesthetician, Nora, came to collect me for my service. We discussed the information I provided on my pre-treatment paperwork and she examined my skin under a high-intensity light. From this, we decided on the Anti-Aging facial with glycolic acid to minimize fine lines and wrinkles and re-hydrate after months of total neglect (and severe hormonal changes).

The facial was relaxing from the get-go. I could feel the tension leaving my face with every stroke of her hand and almost fell asleep several time during various product applications. But what really made this experience memorable for me was her complete knowledge of not only the products she was using on me, but the products I was currently using on my skin and my lack of a regimented skin routine.

Now, I must confess, there is a fine line for me when it comes to communication with my aestheticians and massage therapists. I love to learn about products and best practices, but I also want to relax and enjoy my appointment without feeling as if I need to carry on a conversation. Often times, my thirst for knowledge leads to more of the latter than I would like during, but Nora had the perfect balance. I left my appointment feeling armed with knowledge while simultaneously more relaxed that I had been in months.

Not only was the experience relaxing, but the facial itself provided noticeable results. My skin had a renewed elasticity and fantastic glow about it. After reluctantly peeling myself from the table, I headed back out to the peaceful reception area and Jason once again greeted me and verified that everything had been to my liking. I assured him it was, and more. I don’t mean to imply that I expected an unpleasant experience upon booking my appointment, but I was blown away by how wonderful everything was from start to finish. The staff is beyond exceptional and the service superb. It is easy to see why their monthly memberships are so popular.

Oh, and a sweet $49 for your first Massage Envy Spa Healthy Skin Facial, you really can’t go wrong! See for yourself at a Massage Envy Spa near you!
